The following is a brief description of the committees that have been established by Or Haneshamah. As a lay led community, OrH affords a wealth of opportunities for participation in developing and maintaining educational, social action and g’milut hasadim programs, ritual observances and organizing holiday celebrations.

G’milut Hasadim

This translates as 'acts of loving kindness.' It involves help and support to our community and its individuals.

Ritual

Organizing our ritual observations for Shabbat, festivals and the High Holy Days.

The OrH Band

The OrH Band provides music for many of our events,

Education:

Although we do not operate a school, we have programs for adult, children and teen education.  Many of these are led by our visiting student rabbi.  Many of our children attend the Ottawa Modern Jewish School

Communications:

Amongst other things, we have a weekly email newsletter and a quarterly hard copy newsletter.

Life Cycle Events:

Our community provides support for babynaming, wedding and mitzvah life cycle events.

Bar/Bat Mitzvah Program:

On a regular basis, groups of pre-bar/mitzvah families form into a B'nai Mitzvah Club. With support from the OrH community, these groups provide an accessible opportunity for families and teens to learn about the traditions and value involved in this important life cycle event.
