Programs
Adult Programs
Throughout the year we hold various programs for the adults - a shira (song night), study sessions, movie nights, and programs led by a visiting Rabbi or student Rabbi from the Reconstructionist Rabbinic College (RRC).
Children's Programs
Pre Bar/Bat Mitzvah children belong to our B'nai Mitzvah Club, for learning, social activities, and support. Families planning to have a Bar/Bat Mitzvah in our community are expected to be members of and to participate in the Havurah for two years. Many of our children attend the Ottawa Modern Jewish School, a supplementary school in the Ottawa Jewish community, to further their Jewish education. In addition, families hire private tutors for specific Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparations.
B'nai Mitzvah Group
Young people approaching bar/bat mitzvah are required to join an ORH B’nai Mitzvah Group.
Monthly BMG activities either explore Jewish themes (e.g., mitzvah, learning services) as developed by our visiting rabbinic student or are arranged simply for fun (e.g., laser tag, skating). The BMG offers young members of Or Haneshamah families a chance to make connections with their peers. Parents and kids support each other as each family approaches their bar or bat mitzvah celebration.
The group, which is run by the BMG parents, is another example of the cooperative style of the Or Haneshamah.
